Late Season Success for Franco Ferreira and Team INSPiRE

After a well-deserved break from a very busy racing schedule in the beginning of the year, a 5-strong Team INSPiRE lined up for the last summer classic of 2017 at the Emperors Palace Classic.

With winter closing in fast, the riders experienced a cold start but things heated up pretty fast as the gun went off. The first 30 minutes of racing saw averages above 50km/h which makes the establishment of a break very hard. Early skirmishes were unsuccessful until the peloton turned south towards Heidelberg. Temperatures also went south pretty quickly. The break finally formed with Team INSPiRE represented by Greeff Moolman who is experiencing some great late season form leading up to Sani 2 C.

The break grew their advantage steadily over the next 40km to 1m45sec, it was uncertain whether they could stay away or be swept up by the peloton. A few teams not represented in the break started working together and brought the gap down to 30 seconds and a bunch sprint seemed inevitable.

A few late attacks after the break got caught couldn’t establish a sizable gap with Greeff, Paul and Steve keeping it under control and it was up to the fast men to battel it out in the final kilometre. The final sprint is on a slight incline which suites Franco, racing in his SA colours for the first time, very well.

The sprint kicked off from the bottom of the drag, a long way from the finish line. Patience would be key and Franco timed his sprint to perfection taking the win for Team INSPiRE.
